BYU releases 2008 Schedule

The BYU baseball program has released their 2008 schedule whihc is highlighted with visits from Oregon State and Kansas State. They will take part in two tournaments this year with the Banana Belt Tournament in Idaho on Feb. 28th-March 1st and the Sacramento State Tournament where they will battle UC-Davis, San Jose State, and Sacramento State from March 6th-8th. They will also play a full Mountain West schedule including a visit from conference power TCU. The full schedule is available here.

Service Academy Spring Classic Recap



The Navy Midshipmen were limited to two hits by the Missouri Tigers on the final day of the Service Academy Spring Classic. Missouri pitchers Stephan Holst and Ryan Gargano both pitched 3.0 scoreless and hitless innings to start the game. Ryan Allen then came in and gave up two hits in the final three innings of the game. The no-hit bid was broken up with 2 outs in the eighth inning by freshman Stephen Soares. Navy will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Georgetown.

Missouri followed the Navy shutout victory with a 5-1 loss to Memphis on Sunday. Missouri will be back in action Friday for their home opener with Youngstown State. I have linked to all the other games at the Classic below.

BYU Opens with a win over SHSU



The BYU Cougars opened the 2007 season with a solid 17-8 victory over Sam Houston State. The Cougars were led by a five hit performance from Leon Johnson. He also scored three runs from his lead-off spot in the lineup. The Cougar pitching staff had a rough night with starter Jesse Craig giving up six runs in four innings of work. He was followed by Matt Jensen who gave up two runs in his four innings. Clayton Barnes pitched a scoreless ninth for the victory. Sam Houston State starter Tim Gray who surrendered five runs in his four innings of work. Stephen Spaugh followed him by giving up five runs in 1.1 innings. Tanner Rainwater came in and pitched 2.2 innings and gave up three runs. Zac Baker pitched the ninth and gave up four runs. The Sam Houston State BearKats need to get better pitching if they expect to compete for an NCAA tournament bid. The teams continue the series on Friday afternoon.

BYU Preparing for season by Boxing?



The BYU Baseball team has started preparing for the season by taking their workouts indoors at a local boxing gym. The full team has started the cross training this season after pitching coach Bobby Applegate implemented the regimen last year with his pitchers. The whole team wanted in on the project thus the odd workout regimen. The full article is available here.
