Friday Big East Round-Up


  • Villanova 3, South Florida 2(10) (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.)-Wildcats starter Mike Loree went 9 innings throwing an amazing 160 pitches givings up 2 runs on 9 hits and striking out 6. USF starter Danny Otero also went all 9 giving up 2 unearned runs of 6 hits and ringing up 8. But it all came down to the bottom of the 10th with the game tied at 2 when Villanova junior Dan Terpak steped up to the plate and singled in Sophomore Joe Cotter who was on third.
  • Louisville 6, Connecticut 2 (Storrs, Conn.)-The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and never looked back. Louisville starter Zack Pitts went all the way giving up 2 runs (1 earned) and striking out 7. UConn could never really get any offense going Larry Day was the only bright spot going 1-2 with a RBI.
  • Rutgers 13, Seton Hall 9 (Piscataway, N.J.)-Rutgers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after the first three innings but the lead was quickly earsed by a Seton Hall 7 run 4th inning, but Rutgers quickly answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the same inning. Rutgers was led by Right Fielder Dave Williams 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
  • Pittsburgh 10, St. John's 9 (Queens, NY)-A 9th inning 4 run rally by the Redstorm leaves them short against the Panthers. Pitt was led by leadoff man Sean Conley who went 4-4 with 4 knocked in. St. Johns was led by catcher Brendan Monaghan who went 3-5 with 3 RBIs.
  • Notre Dame 10, Georgetown 0 (Notre Dame, IN)-Notre Dame starting pitcher David Phelps tossed 7 scoreless innings, G-Town starter Erick Chandler gave up 4 runs in 4 innings. Fighting Irish catcher Matt Weglarz went 3-3 knocking in 1 run.
