The Citadel splits with ASU

The Citadel and Appalachian State split a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. In Game 1, Appalachian State scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to knock off the Bulldogs 9-7. Garrett Sherrill picked up the win for the Mountaineers by working the final 2.0 innings to send his record to 7-3. Justin Smith picked up the loss for the Bulldogs by letting up five runs in 1.1 innings to send his record to 4-3.

The second game of the doubleheader was a 17-0 victory for The Citadel. They used a complete game shutout by Matt Crim who allowed nine hits and one walk while striking out seven batters to get his record to 4-2 on the season. Zach Brown led the offense by hitting two homers in the game. Appalachian State starter Jason Rook pitched 5.0 innings while surrendering six runs to drop his record to 4-5.
