ACC Recap for 3/25



Florida State 7 Boston College 0


Ryan Strauss carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning until Tony Sanchez broke up the bid with a single through the left side. Michael Belfiore also got a hit in that inning for the Eagles only two hits. Boston College starter Nick Asslein lasted only two innings while giving up a towering two run homer to Jack Rye in the first inning. He was followed by Terry Doyle who is still nursing a hand injury and he pitched five innings while giving up five runs. Dennis Guinn went 3-3 with 3 RBIs and was a single shy of hitting for the cycle. Florida State is back in action on Tuesday when North Florida comes to visit while Boston College heads Tuesday to Hartford.

UNC 13 Virginia Tech 1

Seven Tar Heels had multiple hits to lead the Tar Heels to a 13-1 victory over Virginia Tech. Luke Putkonen shut down the Hokie offense with seven strong innings while only giving up one run. Tim Fedroff went 3-5 with a homer to lead the Tar Heel offense. VT starter Adam Redd was knocked around in his 3.1 innings while giving up eight runs. UNC will be back in action Wednesday when Davidson visits while Virginia Tech travels to James Madison on Tuesday.

Clemson 5 Maryland 0

Jack Leggett picked up his 1,000 victory and the Clemson Tigers were able to salvage a game from Maryland in a 5-0 victory on Sunday. David Kopp pitched seven shutout innings while only allowing six hits. Brad Chalk, Andy D'Alessio, Taylor Harbin, Ben Paulsen, and J.D. Burgess all had two hits in the game to lead the Tiger offense. Clemson will be playing Gardner-Webb on Tuesday without Jack Leggett who will be in Vermont with his father who is ill. Maryland will be hosting William & Mary also on Tuesday.

Miami 4 UVA 2

The Miami Hurricanes picked up the final game of their series with Virginia by picking up a 4-2 victory. UVA ace Sean Doolittle started and was effective in six innings of work and gave up two runs. His bullpen failed him as Michael Schwimer let up two runs in the top of the eighth which proved to be the winning runs needed by the Canes. Enrique Garcia picked up the victory with a five inning performance and gave up only one run. Danny Gil pitched a scoreless ninth to get his second save of the season. UVA will host George Mason on Tuesday while the Canes will be off until Friday when they go to Clemson.

NC State 3 Wake Forest 2

The NC State Wolfpack squeaked by Wake Forest by the slimmest of margins in a 3-2 victory. Caleb Mangum drove in two runs and Jimmy Gillheeney pitched 5.2 innings and gave up three hits and a run to get his second victory on the season.

Georgia Tech 5 Duke 1

Ryan Turner picked up his second win of the year by letting up 1 run in his six innings of work. Luke Murton led the offense by going 3-4 with 4 RBIs. GT will be back in action when they host Georgia Southern on Tuesday and Wednesday. Duke will head to Campbell Tuesday then host FSU next weekend.
