URI Season Preview



The URI Baseball team started the 2007 season last weekend with a visit to FIU. They lost 3 out of the four games but Head Coach Jim Foster was impressed with how the team hit on the weekend. Boston College opens the season



The Boston College Eagles will visit Nashville TN for the Music City Classic. They will play Belmont, Lipscomb, and Vanderbilt. BC is still looking to build into a regional power in the Northeast and make the ACC Tournament. The BC Heights (student paper) wrote a very good article yesterday previewing the upcoming season which can be read here.

Boston College is currently in a battle with the residents of Allston and Brighton over building the new baseball facility. The article from the Allston-Brighton Tab is available here.

Delaware set to open the season at Richmond



The Delaware Blue Hens will open the season this weekend with a visit to Richmond VA to face off against the Spiders. Delaware is coming off a 30-24 record in 2006 and return 10 position players who started at least 24 games last season.

Clemson hosts George Mason



The George Mason Patriots will take on the top ranked Clemson Tigers this weekend in a three game set. The pitching match up this weekend will be J.J. Pannell of George Mason facing P.J. Zocchi of Clemson on Friday evening. Saturday's match up will be Matt Modica (GM) facing David Kopp (Clemson) and the final game of the series will be Ryan Brecko (GM) facing Ryan Hinson (Clemson). This should be an interesting series since George Mason always has a strong team and both teams are opening the season this weekend.

Southern Miss Media Day



Corky Palmer did his media day yesterday in preparation for the upcoming season. He discusses many different parts of his program from the pitching staff to injuries with his squad. The full transcript and a video are available here.

Getting to know Vanderbilt



The Vanderbilt Commodores will open the season on Friday in the Houston Astro College Classic facing off against Rice. The Media Relations office at Vandy has put out a few press releases previewing the upcoming season in which they are expected to compete for a CWS berth. They are led by fifth year head coach Tim Corbin who has built a very successful program in Nashville. They have two star players with pitcher David Price and Pedro Alvarez.

Oregon State Season Preview

Casey Grogan of The Daily Barometer wrote a very nice article about the upcoming 2007 season for the Oregon State Beavers. The article discusses some of the expectations of the program and how that will affect the upcoming season in which they have started with four straight victories including a no-hitter in game 1. More FSU Articles



The Florida State baseball program gets a ton of press from the Tallahassee Democrat. The Democrat is the main reason behind the massive amount of coverage of the Seminole baseball team on this site.

Steve Ellis checks in today with an article about the friendship between Mike Martin Sr. and Rod Delmonico. They speak on the phone at least once a week and talk about their baseball teams but this weekend, the friendship is off as they play against each other. The full article is available here.

Conference USA Previews Southern Miss



Conference USA has finally posted the last of their season previews by talking about the Southern Miss Golden Eagles today. The Eagles are led by Corky Palmer who is entering his 10th season with the program and has been to the NCAA tournament four straight years. The preview is available here.

Texas hosts San Diego



The Texas Longhorns will begin the season tomorrow in Round Rock TX against the San Diego Toreros. San Diego swept a series from Cal Poly to jump out to a 3-0 record in the early season. Guest Contributor Donald J. Boyles was nice enough to write a nine page preview on the Longhorns season which is linked below. I have also linked both schools game notes.

Citadel Baseball Preview



The Citadel Media Relations Department has released the season preview for the 2007 season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 34-27 record in 2006. They return two out of the three weekend starters in Sophomores Wes Wrenn and Matt Crim. Senior pitcher Justin Smith is expected to make the move to the rotation for the season. The Citadel offense will need to replace shortstop Matt Matulia who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. They also lost second baseman Tripp Cappelman who graduated last spring. They have a bunch of young talent coming in with a strong freshman class.

Air Force

The Air Force Academy has postponed two games for the upcoming weekend due to unplayable field conditions in Colorado Springs. They expect to play York College in a doubleheader on Monday. Why is Air Force scheduling home games in February?

SEC releases Preseason poll



The SEC has released its preseason poll in which they have put South Carolina on top of the east division behind the great hitting Justin Smoak. The Vanderbilt Commodores come in second in that division. Arkansas is the pick to win their division behind the pitching of Nick Schmidt.

Conference USA Previews Memphis



Conference USA is continuing the series of previews on different teams in the conference and they focused today on the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers are led by head coach Daron Schoenrock who is entering his 3rd season at the helm of the Tigers program. He has compiled a 45-70 record in his two seasons but won 32 games last season. The Memphis offense will be led by senior first baseman Adam Amar who hit .395 with ten homers last season. The full preview of the Tigers is available here.

Navy Catchers and Infield Preview



The Naval Academy is continuing the series of releases previewing the upcoming season. They focus today on the catchers and the infield. They lost Jonathan Johnson to graduation who was the second team catcher in the Patriot League last season. They return a large percentage of their starters in the infield and should be fine there. Baylor Outlook

The Baylor Bears are preparing for their season opener on February 9th against the Houston Cougars. The Bears have one of the top freshman classes in the country according to Baseball America. The team also returns 18 letter winners from last season including two key players on the National Semi-finalist team in 2005 in Chase Gerdes and Jeff Mandel. The full preview is available here.

Stanford Outlook



The Stanford Media Relations department has released a season outlook for the 2007 season. The team is led by Mark Marquess who is entering his 31st season at Stanford. He returns Pre-season All-American Micheal Taylor and some depth at starting pitchers Nolan Gallagher and Jimmy Bleich coming back. The full preview is available here.

UC-Irvine Looks ahead

THe UC-Irvine baseball team is looking forward to the upcoming season. The Daily Pilot out of Newport Beach CA checks in with the Anteaters to discuss the upcoming season. The team is led by third year head coach Dave Serrano who expects them to contend for an NCAA bid. The full article is available here.

USC set to open on Tuesday



The USC Trojans under new head coach Chad Kreuter. The leader of the USC offense this season should be Matt Cusick who was admired greatly this summer by his fellow Cape Cod Leaguers who still talk about his hitting ability. Kreuter also has gotten a huge recruit in Robert Stock who left high school early to play for the Trojans this season. Stock was expected to be a first round pick in the upcoming draft but will not be eligible since he has already enrolled in college. Baseball America has rated the incoming freshman class as the third best behind South Carolina and Baylor by Baseball America. Marshall Preview



Conference USA has posted their preview of the Marshall Thundering Herd. The team will be under the direction of new head coach Jeff Waggoner. He comes from NC State where he was an assistant coach for two seasons under Elliot Avent. He inherits a team which returns only two starting position players and lost six pitchers from last years team. The full article is available here.
