The University of San Diego and head coach Rich Hill have released their 2008 schedule which is highlighted by visits from Cal-State Fullerton, Missouri, and UC-Irvine. They will open the season on February 22nd when they play a four game three day home and home series with cross-town rival San Diego State. Some other highlights from the schedule are when the Toreros head to Hawaii-Hilo for a three game series from March 15th-17th before returning home to take on Ivy League power Harvard for a three game set. The Kansas Jayhawks completed the sweep of Hawaii-Hilo Sunday by a score of 9-2. The Jayhawks were led by 2-4 performance from Buck Afenir who also hit a home run and had three RBI's. The Jayhawks are back in action next weekend when they host South Dakota State for a three game set.

The Kansas Jayhawks took game four of their series against the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans by beating them 10-1 on Saturday. This was the Jayhawks fourth straight win to open the season while the Vulcans continue their poor start by going to 0-8. The Jayhawks were led by a Ryne Price who hit a homer and drove in three runs. Andy Marks had a solid performance by going 6.2 innings and not giving up a run. They will finish off the series on Sunday.

Hawaii-Hilo has continued their horrible start by heading to 0-7 on the season after getting swept in a doubleheader by the Kansas Jayhawks by scores of 12-0 and 7-2. Freshman pitcher Wally Marciel made his collegiate debut in the nightcap for the Jayhawks and pitched five innings giving up two runs. Marciel is from Kailua, Hawaii so this was a homecoming for him. Casey Larson was the star on offense by picking up 3 hits and driving in two.
In Game 1, Senior Kyle Murphy led the Jayhawk offense by going 2-3 with 4 RBI. Nick Czyz pitched 4.1 innings to earn the victory in the mercy ruled shortened game.

Kansas Recap Game 1
The Kansas Jayhwaks took Game 1 from Hawaii-Hilo by a score of 4-1. Lars Knepper started the game for the Vulcans and pitched 6.2 solid innings while only giving up 3 runs (all earned) on four hits. Mr. Knepper did not get much help again last night from the Vulcan offense since they only recorded two hits on the evening. In his first start, the Vulcans were no hit by Oregon State. Zach Ashwood started for Kansas and gave up one hit and one run in his six innings of work. He was followed by Ryotaro Hayakawa who pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings while giving up only one hit. Paul Smyth pitched the ninth to record his first save. The Jayhawk offense was led by Ry Price who went 2-3 with a home run. Leadoff hitter Brock Simpson also got two hits including a key triple in the seventh inning to break the 1-1 tie.
